Welcome to Edgelea Elementary
School!
Edgelea Elementary School represents students, parents, teachers,
and staff working together to meet the individual needs of all students.
Our school has several special programs in place to help us achieve
these goals: extended day kindergarten; the Challenge Program for
gifted and talented students; Greater Lafayette Area Special Services
programs for hearing impaired, communication and learning disabilities,
and mildly mentally handicapped; art, music, and physical education
classes taught by specialists; a guidance counselor; and an emphasis
by each teacher on helping each child succeed academically and socially.
Edgelea believes in life-long learning as an important skill for teachers,
students, and parents. A variety of opportunities are presented for
teachers to learn new teaching methodologies and for students to enrich
their learning experiences. The Edgelea Staff has focused on improving
student achievement in literacy and mathematics. There has been an
emphasis on teaching "process writing" to all students.
Several teachers have been awarded grants to further this goal.
The Teacher Parent Association (TPA) is very active at Edgelea School.
Monthly meetings are held to discuss important school issues and to
plan special events. These meetings are held the first Thursday of
every month at 6:30 pm in our cafeteria. Several annual events include
a Back to School Night, Family STEM Night, and Family Reading Night.
Edgelea School is truly a community of learning focusing on life-long
learning skills and opportunities. Please feel free to visit our school
and get involved by volunteering. We welcome you to a very special
learning environment!!
